Five Minutes with Tony Auden

Name: Tony Auden

Role: Meteorologist / Weather Presenter

Why are you taking part in The Sunday Mail Transurban Bridge to Brisbane?

I love running, and can’t pass up the chance to run this iconic route over the Gateway Bridge and through Brisbane. Plus it’s always a highlight getting to run with such a large crowd.

Have you participated in the event before?

Yes. I ran a couple of times around 5 years ago. One year I was pretty fit and managed to finish in less than 45 minutes! I won’t be setting my sights anywhere near those heights this year.

What event are you participating in and who will you be running with?

This year I am participating in the 10km event and will be running with the Channel 7 team.

Of all the worthy causes to support, why have you chosen to support your chosen charity?

I’m proud to support the Allison Bayden Clay Foundation.

Where is your favourite spot to go for a run in Brisbane and why?

While I have a few short tracks around the northern suburbs where I live, I love getting down by the river for a run. The view from South Bank across to the CBD definitely makes the run a bit easier!

If you could go for a run with one person in the world (celebrity or not), who would it be and why?

While I normally run by myself with a good playlist, it would be great to join great Queensland golfers Adam Scott or Cameron Smith… if only to annoy them for a few tips on my golf game!

Top tip for people training for The Sunday Mail Transurban Bridge to Brisbane?

Make sure you’ve been for at least a couple of decent runs before the big day. It doesn’t have to be the full length, but enough to know if you need to wear in your shoes, or put Band-Aids on any spots that rub. You don’t want to do that mid run!

If you could get one message out to people, following your personal experiences, what would it be?

Even if you haven’t tried running before, try The Sunday Mail Transurban Bridge to Brisbane. It’s a unique course with great views of Brisbane, and such a great community atmosphere on the day!
