MEET THE CREW KEEPING THINGS RUNNING SMOOTHLY

Transurban’s state-of-the art control room will switch from managing the movement of thousands of cars and trucks to an expected 35,000 runners, wheelers and walkers next Sunday.

It’s a logistical and technical nerve centre using 1500 CCTV cameras covering the 10km and 5km courses during The Sunday Mail Transurban Bridge to Brisbane. One of Transurban’s most important pieces of infrastructure – the Gateway Bridge – will be closed to vehicles as thousands make their way over it at the start of the iconic fun run.

It will reopen post event, while the Clem7 southbound and Airportlink M7 southbound will be toll free from 5am-9.30am on Sunday thanks to Transurban. Traffic control room operator Ben Rogers will participate in the Bridge to Brisbane as part of Team Transurban, while his colleagues run the command centre.

“This year I’m excited to be part of the action with my colleagues, rather than watching the event unfold on our cameras,” he said.

“I’ll be sure to wave at the control room as I run the course and I know they’ll be cheering us on.”

Representatives from the event organisers, Queensland emergency services, Brisbane Metropolitan Traffic Management Centre and traffic control will be busy in the control room to ensure the fun run takes place safely and with minimal impact to motorists and the surrounding traffic network.
