Transurban Bridge to Brisbane presented by Brooks on song for record turnout in 30th anniversary celebrations

The 30th anniversary of the Transurban Bridge to Brisbane presented by Brooks is shaping as the biggest in the event’s history, with Queensland’s largest fun run on track to attract a record 40,000 participants.

With two months until runners take to the streets on Sunday, 13 September, key stakeholders gathered at Kangaroo Point today to celebrate the milestone and provide an update on preparations for the landmark event which has already attracted more than 25,000 entries.

To be delivered by Events Management Queensland (EMQ) for the first time, the 30th edition will build on decades of community participation as the iconic event joins a stable of globally recognised events that collectively generate more than $120 million in annual economic impact for Queensland.

The countdown celebration featured performances from members of the renowned Underground Opera, whose powerful performances have become synonymous with the Bridge to Brisbane experience. Their surprise performances along the course have captivated runners and spectators for many years, creating one of the event’s most memorable traditions.

Events Management Queensland CEO Ben Mannion said the strong early demand reflected the excitement surrounding the milestone anniversary.

“To already have more than 25,000 people registered two months out from the event is a fantastic result and puts us on track to welcome a record 40,000 participants for this special 30th anniversary,” Mr Mannion said.

“Our focus has always been to build on the incredible foundations established over the past three decades while preserving the unique community spirit that has made Bridge to Brisbane such a beloved event.”

Minister for Tourism Andrew Powell MP said the event highlighted Queensland’s growing reputation as a leading destination for major events.

“The 30th anniversary of Bridge to Brisbane is a fantastic milestone for one of Queensland’s most iconic community events and a great example of what makes our state such a strong events destination,” Minister Powell said.

“From community participation events to some of the nation’s biggest cultural and sporting drawcards, Queensland continues to attract events that bring people together and showcase the best of our state.

“With record participation on the horizon, Bridge to Brisbane is delivering benefits well beyond race day – attracting visitors, supporting local businesses and showcasing Brisbane as we build towards 2032.”

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the 30th anniversary would celebrate a much-loved event that brings people together and creates more to see and do.

“For 30 years, Bridge to Brisbane has encouraged people to get active, raised important funds for charities and become a proud tradition for our city,” Cr Schrinner said.

“This September, thousands of runners, walkers and wheelers from all around Queensland and beyond will enjoy one of Brisbane’s most loved races.

“Events like this are also a win for local businesses, as participants fill our hotels, cafes and restaurants and supporting jobs right across our city.”

Transurban General Manager Theuns Lloyd said the organisation was proud to continue supporting the event as it celebrates its 30th anniversary.

“Every day we help people move across South East Queensland, but Bridge to Brisbane provides a rare opportunity to see our roads transformed into a place where tens of thousands of people can come together to walk, run and celebrate this incredible city.”

Since its inception in 1997, Bridge to Brisbane has welcomed more than 700,000 participants, raised more than $14 million for charity and become one of Queensland’s most recognisable mass participation events.

Entries remain open for the 30th anniversary Transurban Bridge to Brisbane presented by Brooks, with organisers encouraging participants to secure their place ahead of what is expected to be a record-breaking event.
