For parents Gabby and Leon Marchan-Adams, The Sunday Mail Transurban Bridge to Brisbane this weekend is personal.

It symbolises the community support the family received earlier this year when their daughter Nina struggled with breathing after being born prematurely at 29 weeks.

While little Nina was provided specialist care in the Gold Coast University Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, mum and dad stayed nearby at Ronald McDonald House, which has benefited from funds raised in the Bridge to Brisbane.

The community fun run this Sunday is expected to be a sellout, with 35,000 people running, walking and wheeling the course.

Bridge to Brisbane’s major supporter Transurban is the event’s biggest charity fundraiser, raising millions of dollars for Ronald McDonald House Charities over more than a decade.

Nina is now nearly 8months-old and has a happy, healthy future ahead.

Father Leon will use the Bridge to Brisbane to return the favour and raise money for RMHC.

“I am happy that my running can help support a great cause,” he said.

Transurban Public Affairs Director Queensland, Ruth Moody, said the Team Transurban is proud to be a long-term partner of RMHC SEQ, raising more than $2.4 million for this worthy cause over the past 11 years.

“We’re proud to have already raised more than $285,000 to support RMHC SEQ in this year’s Sunday Mail Transurban Bridge to Brisbane,” she said.

“This year Team Transurban is looking forward to running alongside the Marchan-Adams family as they tackle the Gateway Bridge incline – running not just for the finish line but to help families of ill and injured children have a home away from home.”
