Mikolay Podgorski on raising funds for Hummingbird House

Mikolay Podgorski on raising funds for Hummingbird House.

#1 individual fundraiser Mikolay Podgorski who has already raised $23,090 for Hummingbird House, is taking part in the Bridge to Brisbane for the first time to raise awareness and much needed funds for Hummingbird House.

Who is your charity of choice? And why is that cause important to you?

Hummingbird House is Queensland’s only children’s hospice that provides specialised paediatric palliative care services to babies, children and young people with a life-limiting condition. At the age of 5 months, my son Max, was diagnosed with a life-limiting brain malformation called Lissencephaly. Hummingbird House has been an amazing layer of support for our family and has provided us with respite and a home away from home. I wanted to raise awareness for Hummingbird House as well as for the hundreds of families in Queensland with children with life-limiting conditions.

Who will you be running with?

I’ll be running with my future brother-in-law John Tynan. It’s thanks to John that I am participating for the first time!

What does Hummingbird House do for our community?

Hummingbird House is so much more than just a facility. It supports families all across Queensland with care and compassion and becomes an extension of your own family.

Mik’s Story:

8 months ago I had never heard of Hummingbird House. Now I could not imagine my family’s life without it. It was 8 months ago, that my son Max, at the age of 5 months, was diagnosed with a life-limiting brain malformation called Lissencephaly. Navigating the period since diagnosis has been traumatic for us a as family.

I had no idea how we would survive the day to day struggle of being parents to a child with a life-limiting disability. One amazing source of support for us has been in the welcoming arms of Hummingbird House. Hummingbird House is Queensland’s only children’s hospice and one of only three children’s hospices in Australia. They provide specialised paediatric palliative care services to babies, children and young people with a life-limiting condition, helping them make every moment precious when life is short.

Hummingbird House and the amazing nurses, doctors and volunteers have supported us by providing respite stays where they provide care for Max and we can stay as a family. These respite stays have been invaluable in navigating our new world.

Hummingbird House relies on the generosity and support of the Queensland Government and corporate and community supporters to ensure their service is here for every family that needs them, at no cost.

By providing a donation, you will help not only my family, but thousands of Queensland families caring for their children with life-limiting conditions which is a world that is often hidden.

Help Mik reach his fundraising goal by donating here.
